Athletics

On the 27th of April ninety-two children from our school competed in our Regional Area Athletic Competition. It was held in the Finn VAlley Centre. We competed in many events such as sprints, long distance races, long jump, high jump, shot and turbo javelin. We had a very successful day out and returned to school with many gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates for 4th place.

All award winners then qualified for the county finals on the 11th of May. Cathair won gold and Armanis bronze in the Shot Put. Both Emily and Ríona won gold in their sprint. Luka and C.J. were awarded bronze in the 100m Sprint. Abigail, Amy and Ryan all won gold in the Turbo Javelin. It was gold again for Emily and Ríona in their respective Long Jumps. Great runs also from Barry and Aoibhe meant they received certificates for their 4th Places in the Sprints.

The day finished on an exciting note with all Relay Teams winning medals. Ríona, Emily, Maria and Molly won gold in the 2007/2006 girls relay. In the same age category Niall, Eoghan, Dáire and Sean won silver. It was silver again for Maja, Bethany, Abigail and Lauren in the 2005/2004 Girls Relay and silver was also awarded to the boys team which was made up of Armanis, Ryan, Luka and Gavyn.

Well done to all the children that competed on both days. You've done the school proud.
